CYBERKNIFE® SYSTEM

What To Expect With CyberKnife Treatment

An Effective, Less Disruptive Treatment Option

The CyberKnife System offers a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment option that delivers proven results for a wide range of cancers and metastases. CyberKnife provides stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), closely related types of radiation therapy that involve delivering a relatively higher dose of radiation with extreme accuracy. The high level of precision of this approach — also called hypofractionation — enables a higher dose of radiation to be delivered to a tumor in significantly fewer treatment sessions, while also reducing the radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.

Insurers are increasingly covering the CyberKnife System for cancer treatment

CyberKnife precision delivers a number of unique benefits to patients

Excellent Long-Term Cancer Control

By delivering a high dose of radiation directly to the tumor, CyberKnife treatment is proven to provide excellent long-term outcomes.

No Surgery, No Hospitalization

CyberKnife treatment is an outpatient procedure that requires no incisions, no general anesthesia, no hospitalization and no long recovery period.

Fewer
Treatments

CyberKnife treatment can be completed in dramatically fewer treatment sessions, compared to conventional radiation therapy.

Minimized Side Effects

The unparalleled, sub-millimeter precision of CyberKnife treatment significantly reduces the risk of common side effects.

Important Safety Statement: Most side effects of radiotherapy, including radiotherapy delivered with Accuray systems, are mild and temporary, often involving fatigue, nausea, and skin irritation. Side effects can be severe, however, leading to pain, alterations in normal body functions (for example, urinary or salivary function), deterioration of quality of life, permanent injury and even death. Side effects can occur during or shortly after radiation treatment or in the months and years following radiation. The nature and severity of side effects depend on many factors, including the size and location of the treated tumor, the treatment technique (for example, the radiation dose), the patient’s general medical condition, to name a few. For more details about the side effects of your radiation therapy, and if treatment with an Accuray product is right for you, ask your doctor.
